Defending CIF San Diego Section Open Division champion San Marcos should again be stellar behind reigning player of the year Josie Willis, who returns for her senior season.

Seniors Emily Soriano and Audrey Ho are also vital to the Knights this season, with Ho as the goalkeeper.

• Set to challenge San Marcos is Torrey Pines, which won last year’s Southern California Regional Division 2 championship as a No. 8 seed. The Falcons return a bevy of players, led by junior Lauren Johnson, who earned All-CIF second-team honors last season.

• Patrick Henry is another team to watch. The Patriots won the section Division 1 title, then shut out their next three opponents by a combined score of 12-0 to claim the SoCal Regional Division 3 title. The Patriots return eight starters, including All-CIF first-teamer Emma Cunningham, and will receive a boost from second-team All-CIF selection Annabel Grentz, a transfer from San Diego High.
