Preview: UCSD faces Fresno State for first time since 1981

Last time out: The Tritons finished the first half on a 21-4 run and went on to defeat Houston Christian 78-60 at home. Tom Beattie led UCSD with 18 points and six rebounds in a team-leading 31 minutes. Alex Chaikin was the only other Triton in double figures with 10 points.

Series history: Fresno State won the only previous meeting 89-42 in 1981, when UCSD was a Division III program.

Bulldogs notes: Senior guard Jake Heidbreder is averaging 18.3 points a game for Fresno State. The Bulldogs have double-digit wins over Fresno Pacific and Long Beach State around a one-point loss to South Carolina-Upstate of the Big South Conference.

Tritons notes: Beattie, a 6-foot-5 junior guard from New Zealand, leads the Tritons with 33 points over two games. He is also tied for the team lead in assists (five) and is third with 10 rebounds. Leo Beath, a 6-8 junior transfer from Lynn University, has 31 points and nine rebounds in the season’s first two games. Chaikin (23 points) and Beattie are the only Tritons to score in double figures in both games.
