Preview: USD travels to Long Beach for first true road game of season

Last time out: USD lost 76-61 to undefeated Cal Baptist (6-0) on the neutral Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. USD opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take a 52-41 lead only to be outscored 35-9 over the final 15 minutes. USD converted just 3 of 22 3-pointers. Ty-Laur Johnson led USD with 21 points; Toneari Lane added 14.

Series history: Long Beach State leads the all-time series, 5-3.

Toreros notes: This is USD’s first game of the season on an opponent’s court. Lane (12.2 points per game), Johnson (11.8) and Juanse Gorosito (11.0) lead the Toreros in scoring. After ranking seventh in the nation in 3-point shooting after three games, USD has made only 19 of 78 attempts over its last three outings.

The Beach notes: Long Beach State is 0-2 against teams from the West Coast Conference, losing 69-66 at Pacific and 93-73 at Portland. Freshman guard Gavin Sykes leads The Beach in scoring at 12.8 points a game. Peter Majstorovic, a sophomore from Serbia, is averaging 12.4 and 6.9 rebounds per game.
