Professor to discuss ‘The Prospects for Peace in Ukraine and What It Would Require’ at event in Solana Beach

Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) has asked Dr. Branislav L. Slantchev, professor of political science at UCSD, back to provide his insights on the current war in Ukraine. The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at La Colonial Community Center, located at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach.

Slantchev has taught courses in international relations, national security and game theory for the past 23 years. He studies military coercion, intra-war negotiations, the conduct of war and war termination. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Slantchev was awarded a bachelor of science in computer science from Angelo State University in 1997. He received a master of arts in political science from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Rochester in 2002.

In his youth, he lived in Kyiv for four years and after teaching at the Kyiv School of Economics this spring, he returned to Ukraine in the summer to lecture at the Game Theory Summer School in Kyiv.

He lives in Solana Beach with his wife who is also a professor of political science at UCSD. Their children go to school in Solana Beach.This event is free and open to the public. If you’re a senior and need a ride, call 858-284-6619.
