Raven runner Luca Caruso takes second in Occidental Distance Night two miler
Coming off the close of the cross country season, many of Southern California’s fastest runners raced in the Occidential Distance Night, held Dec. 13 at Occidental College in Los Angeles. The event featured races in distances of 800 meters, one mile, two miles and a 5K, and Canyon Crest Academy’s Luca Caruso was one of two San Diego County runners to light up the night.
Caruso finished second in a tightly contested two-mile (3,218 meters) race, recording a personal-best 9:08.3. Throughout the race, Caruso traded leads with Gunner Silva of Classical Academy and Krish Desai of Manhattan Beach High School, keeping pace at 4.34 per mile. In the final stretch, Desai just edged out Caruso at the line. Silva would finish third.
In November, Caruso was part of the Ravens cross country squad that won the Coastal League Championship, where he won the boys 5K race.
