Good news for food lovers — Roppongi Asian Bistro and Sammy’s Restaurant & Bar are now open at Pier South Resort, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel in Imperial Beach. Welcoming hotel guests and locals alike, the two restaurants offer a vibrant array of global flavors and all-day menu options directly on the ocean.
Sammy’s offers a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere perfect for casual coastal dining, while Roppongi delivers a sophisticated take on Asian cuisine in a modern, elevated setting. Together, they are drawing in locals and visitors hungry for the restaurants’ unique menus, price points and experiences — set against the stunning backdrop of the Imperial Beach shoreline.
Sammy’s was founded in 1989 by enterprising hospitality specialist Sami Ladeki, who opened the first location in La Jolla and then quickly expanded throughout California and Nevada. It was the first concept in San Diego to introduce the woodfired oven to its guests. But Ladeki wasn’t done innovating.
In 1998, he opened Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar in La Jolla. The restaurant quickly became a cult-followed hotspot for San Diegans, winning multiple awards over the next 20 years. It has been brought back by popular demand 10 years later and will soon reopen in La Jolla in its original location. The menu for both locations stays true to the past, containing all the fan-favorites that have been missed.
At Pier South, Roppongi offers a fresh take on classic favorites such as the famous crab stack, mouth-watering onion rings and Mongolian Shrimp, along with a vibrant selection of sushi, Asian tapas and bold entrées like crying tiger steak. The menu showcases fresh, vibrant ingredients with a modern coastal twist, balancing flavorful shareable plates with sophisticated main courses, all designed to complement the restaurant’s chic, seaside atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Sammy’s continues its commitment to using local, organic and nutritionally balanced ingredients, with all menu items prepared without butter or artificial trans-fats. Family-friendly dishes include the popular Grilled Balsamic Chicken Salad, an array of creative and delicious pizzas and their signature Messy Sundae.
Both Roppongi and Sammy’s offer newly renovated and stylishly designed indoor and outdoor seating. Roppongi at Pier South serves dinner daily from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sammy’s at Pier South serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sammy’s also offers the best Happy Hour around which is served daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring many food items at 50% off as well as drink specials.
