San Diego Trolley adds extra Green Line service for holiday bowl game
The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is boosting trolley service Friday for an annual holiday bowl game at Snapdragon Stadium.
Fans heading to see the University of Arizona Wildcats compete against Southern Methodist University Mustangs are encouraged to travel early. Kickoff will be at 5 p.m.
Before the event, the Green Line will be running at least every 15 minutes. More eastbound trains will be added between 2:40 and 4:20 p.m. from downtown.
After the game, Green Line trains heading in both directions will leave Stadium Station every 15 minutes or more often. Additional trips will be added as needed until 9:50 p.m. or until crowds have thinned.
Fans can park at the free park and ride lots throughout the system, but MTS highlights the following as the most convenient:
- Old Town Transit Center has more than 400 free parking spots. Nearby overflow parking at Caltrans District 11, 4050 Taylor St., has more than 300 more.
- Morena/Linda Vista has 200 free spaces. Most parking will be available off Friars Road.
- Grossmont Transit Center has 220 free spots.
- El Cajon Transit Center has more than 400 free parking spots.
- Amaya Drive has 230 free spots.
The beefed-up service comes after a day of limited service on both MTS and North County Transit District lines.
On New Year’s Day, both transit agencies will operate buses and trains on a Sunday schedule, with some services reduced, so be sure to check the schedules before you ride.
