Santa Fe Christian holds its 27th annual Veterans Celebration

by News Release

Santa Fe Christian recently honored San Diego Veterans by hosting their 27th Annual Veterans Celebration.

The beloved event is the school’s largest all-school gathering and a true community effort, showcasing the talents of many students across campus. The event featured the SFC band, choir, dance troupe, student broadcasters, ASB leaders, 8th-grade poetry readers, and numerous parent volunteers, according to a news release.

One highlight was SFC student Tyler Ellis joining in the presentation of colors.

Lieutenant Timothy Brock returned as this year’s keynote speaker. Brock, who is married to an SFC middle school English teacher, inspired students and guests alike with a powerful message.

“Whatever you choose in life, make your community better, honor your family always, be patriotic, and make your country better,” said Brock in the news release.

Nearly 100 veterans attended the celebration, standing proudly alongside family members and friends. Among them was the event’s most senior veteran, Corporal James Ziegler, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Cpl. Ziegler was joined by his granddaughter, Megan Ziegler, who teaches science at SFC.

“I’m going to challenge you,” said Brock in the news release. “Take your hands off of the wheel and say, ‘God, whatever you need, I am available.’ It will be hard, but it will be the best adventure of your life.”
