Senior improv group scheduled to perform in Del Mar

by News Release

Del Mar Community Connections has announced a special performance from The Free Spirits improv comedy group to be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Del Mar Town Hall (1050 Camino Del Mar). Those interested in joining for the unscripted, unpredictable, and unforgettable free show can learn more and register at www.dmcc.cc/calendar or call the DMCC office at (858) 792-7565.

The Free Spirits prove that creativity—and comedy—only get better with age. They are an ensemble comprised of senior citizens age 59-90 who are members of Theater World at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of UCSD. They are the only regularly-performing, immensely entertaining, and award-winning group of older adult improv artists in the area, according to a news release. Directed by professional theater instructor and director Courtney Flanagan, the group has been performing both short-form and long-form improv in a variety of venues since 2019, picking up a number of awards along the way. They aim to prove that imagination never grows old and having fun is great for the soul, the news release stated.

Del Mar Community Connections is an independent 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to support and serve the older adults of Del Mar so that they may age independently at home. DMCC helps seniors live active, vibrant lives by providing transportation, education, and social activities. Those who have questions about this event, or who want to inquire about other activities and volunteer opportunities, may call DMCC during business hours at (858) 792-7565, email dmcc@dmcc.cc or visit the website at www.dmcc.cc.
