Solana Beach to replace light fixtures on pedestrian bridges
The Solana Beach City Council awarded a contract worth $339,000 on Nov. 5 to Tri-Group Construction and Development for the Cliff Street and Rosa Street pedestrian bridges light fixture replacements.
The work includes 61 new weathered light fixtures that will be LED and resistant to corrosion. The total budget, including a $40,000 contingency, is $379,000.
According to a council agenda report, “The fixtures will continue to direct light downward and will be configured to match the brightness of existing lights to maintain lighting consistency in the corridor.”
The bridges were installed about 20 years ago to allow pedestrians to cross the railway. Over time, they have deteriorated due to “exposure in a coastal environment,” according to the city.
“To maintain high-quality, safe, and accessible infrastructure, the City plans to replace the existing light fixtures on both bridges,” according to the council agenda report. “Though the fixtures remain operational, their condition has deteriorated over time due to exposure in a coastal environment. The project is primarily funded through Measure S and reflects the City’s commitment to proactive maintenance and community safety.”
The contract will be in effect for 300 working days, which, according to the city, “is necessary to account for the extended lead time required to procure the specified light fixtures and allow the contractor sufficient time to complete the permit process with North County Transit District.”
