Spirit of Liberty Foundation hosts celebrations for the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps

The Spirit of Liberty Foundation hosted a historic Patriotic Celebration dinner for the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on Nov. 9. The Sons of the American Revolution presented the Colors, followed by a Blessing by Marine Chaplain Don Biadog, who blessed the United States Marine Corps, according to a news release.

The following day, the Spirit of Liberty Foundation, the San Diego Air & Space Museum and the Sons of the American Revolution hosted a historic celebration for the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on Nov. 10.

The Patriotic Ceremony opened with the ringing of the Spirit of Liberty Foundation’s America’s Freedom Bell, The Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard presented the Colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Blessing by a Marine Chaplain.

Among the attendees was Max Gurney, a 104-year-old Normandy WWII veteran, and several Korean War and Vietnam veterans.

A specially prepared statement from General Eric M. Smith, commandant of the United States Marine Corps, was read by a Sons of the American Revolution member while standing next to a 6-foot replica of the Declaration of Independence which was displayed beside the podium as speakers made their remarks as a powerful symbol of liberty and sacrifice, the news release stated.

At the close of the ceremony, a birthday cake featuring the Official Seal of the 250th Marine Corps was served.
