There’s a better way for tribes to improve internet access
Re “Outdated copper lines keep tribes from connecting” (Dec. 3): High-speed internet is almost essential to life these days; glad to see the Mission Grande Band understands that. But perhaps someone should introduce the tribe to a satellite internet service called Starlink?
Instead of waiting for the state to figure out a solution, which would probably not work well and have a gold-plated price tag, the tribe could simply connect using Starlink. For low-income communities, what if the state spent some small fraction of what it would waste on its own ineffective efforts to buy Starlink hardware and pay the monthly fees?
But then that would be both “taking the bull by the horns” instead of waiting for someone else to fix a problem for you as well as “using tax dollars efficiently.” Neither is in vogue these days.
