Third person arrested in Nestor double homicide

by Caleb Lunetta

A third person has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left two men dead inside separate camper trailers in Nestor last month.

Investigators said they arrested on Friday 22-year-old Marco Ramirez, a Tijuana resident, on suspicion of killing Richard Hartung, 64, and Aaron Cruz, 42, inside two camper trailers at a fenced storage yard on Aug. 30, San Diego police homicide Lt. Lou Maggi said.

David Verduzco Kruglova, a 24-year-old San Ysidro resident, and a 16-year-old boy from Tijuana were already arrested earlier this month in connection with the shooting, Maggi said.

Ramirez was booked into jail on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, according to online booking logs. He is being held without bail.

Police said that on the morning of the killings, officers received a call around 3:25 a.m. at a property on Sunset Avenue near Hollister Street, about 1½ miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, Maggi said. It contains several individually fenced industrial storage spaces.

Hartung and Cruz had died by the time officers arrived, Maggi said.

Two assault rifles that investigators believe were likely used in the shootings were later recovered.

Details about the events leading up to the shooting or about the possible relationship between the victims and suspects were not immediately available.
