Time to stop the bleeding on city’s Ash Street follies
Re “The San Diego City Hall motto: Due diligence is for losers” (Aug. 3): It seems to me it’s time to quit looking for a magic solution to the Ash Street debacle. Quit throwing taxpayers’ good money after bad decisions by the mayor(s) and City Council(s).
I suggest a Las Vegas-style implosion, as is done with outdated casinos. Clear the land, then figure out the best use with a clean slate. Just admit the mistakes, cut the losses and move on.
No more hocus-pocus putting taxpayers on the hook for some sketchy deal that may or may not show a positive return in 15 years, if lucky. Quit thinking that quarters in parking meters in Balboa Park is a solution.
Stop the bleeding now. Wipe the slate clean. If done right, a positive impact for the city could be realized in less than five years.
