Two motorcyclists injured in separate Pacific Beach accidents

Two motorcyclists were injured in unrelated crashes in Pacific Beach on Wednesday evening less than a half-hour apart.

In the first accident, a 61-year-old man riding a green Kawasaki off-road motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a severe injury after he collided with a Toyota Corolla, police said.

San Diego Police Department officers were called to Ingraham Street and La Mancha Drive at approximately 5:29 p.m. Wednesday where they learned a 20-year-old  woman was traveling south in a silver Toyota Corolla on 3600 Ingraham when she turned left onto 1500 La Mancha. The motorcyclist, who was traveling north on 3500 Ingraham, struck the Corolla  broadside and was ejected from the motorcycle, said SDPD Officer Jose Perales.

Video cameras in the area captured the motorcycle rider traveling at unsafe speeds, police said. He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.

In the second accident, a 55-year-old man on a motorcycle was hospitalized Wednesday after he sustained several injuries in a multi-vehicle collision, where alcohol was a factor, police said.

SDPD officers responded at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday to the 2300 block of Grand Avenue where they learned a 66-year-old woman was traveling east in the number one lane in a Nissan pickup. A 32-year-old man was traveling east in the number two lane in a Chevrolet Camaro, Perales said.

The motorcyclist, who was also traveling eastbound in the number one lane, approached the slowed traffic and collided with the right rear of the 66-year-old woman’s pickup. The motorcyclist and the pickup truck driver then collided with the rear of the Chevy Camaro, police said.

The motorcyclist sustained a compound fracture to his arm, a fractured femur, a fractured tibia and fibula and police said alcohol played a role in the crash.

The department’s Traffic Division is handling both investigations. Anyone with information related to either accident is asked to call 858-495-7800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
