Woman fatally struck by cars while crossing street in San Carlos

by Karen Kucher

A 38-year-old woman died after she was hit by two vehicles while trying to cross a street in San Carlos early Wednesday, San Diego police said. Both drivers stopped after hitting the pedestrian.

The second driver called police shortly after 4:40 a.m. to report the collision, which occurred on Mission Gorge Road near Conestoga Way, east of Princess View Drive, Officer David O’Brien said.

The woman died at the scene. Her name was not released.

The incident began when a 47-year-old male driving a Honda CRV on Mission Gorge struck the woman as she was trying to cross the street and walked west in the middle of the block, O’Brien said. The driver told police he did not see the pedestrian until “the last minute” and collided with her, police said.

A short time later, a second driver, a 66-year-old man in a Tesla Model Y, ran over the woman as she was lying in the southbound lane of the road.

No other details were immediately available.
