World-renowned classical guitarist Christopher Parkening visits Santa Fe Christian

by News Release

Santa Fe Christian middle and high school students recently had a very special guest in chapel. Classical guitarist Christopher Parkening visited the school to share his testimony and his professional career, according to a news release.

Parkening is ranked as one of the world’s preeminent virtuosos of the classical guitar. The Washington Post cited, he is “the leading guitar virtuoso of our day combining profound musical insight with complete technical mastery of his instrument.” And The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Parkening is considered America’s reigning classical guitarist, carrying the torch of his mentor, the late Andrés Segovia.” The great Spanish guitarist proclaimed that “Christopher Parkening is a great artist—he is one of the most brilliant guitarists in the world.”

“I loved hearing Christopher Parkening’s music journey, about how he realized once he had everything he wanted, that he still wasn’t fulfilled, and came to know Jesus,” said Siena Porcelli, SFC junior, in the news release. “As someone who aspires to pursue music as a career, hearing his story was very inspiring and taught me to trust God and how to do all for His glory.”

Parkening has performed around the world, including prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the White House. His television appearances include the Grammy Awards, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and 20/20.

He has recorded 20 albums and earned two Grammy nominations in the category of “Best Classical Recordings.”

“Mr. Parkening truly inspired the students,” said SFC Head of Schools Rod Gilbert in the news release. “As soon as the presentation ended, students crowded around him with smiles and questions. The affection he showed the students during the presentation and in the small group setting showed how much of a loving man he is.”

Parking is currently a professor of music and chair of the Guitar Department at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.

“I am thankful that he and his wife Teresa were able to come down from Pepperdine University to invest in our students,” said Gilbert in the news release.
