Beautiful ‘supermoon’ will be visible across San Diego County on Monday
The full moon that will rise in the east shortly before sunset on Monday will appear to be a bit bigger and brighter than usual because it will be reaching perigee, or its closest approach to Earth, according to NASA.
This is the first of three consecutive monthly “supermoons” that will occur between now and the end of the year, something that’s fairly uncommon.
On Monday, the moon will be fully above the horizon at 6:10 p.m. and will reach its peak illumination at 8:47 p.m. The best time to look may be immediately after the sun sets at 6:25 p.m. when the moon appears to be sitting on the top of the mountains in eastern San Diego County.
There will be patchy clouds in some coastal areas at sunset. But the National Weather Service expects skies to be mostly clear everywhere else.
Monday’s moon also is known as the harvest moon because it is the first full moon to occur since the autumn equinox.
