Cal Coast student posts big performance in Major League Show Jumping debut

by Del Mar Times

In his debut this month in the Major League Show Jumping competition, 17-year-old Cal Coast Academy student Tony Stormanns helped secure his team’s second win of the year in the $262,500  5* Team Competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center in North Carolina. Tony, who rides for Team Helios, had the team’s only fault-free round and clinched the Oct. 17 win with a time of 46.80 seconds riding Donjon d’Asschaut. The team is managed by Tony’s mother Helena Stormanns, a well-known show jumping trainer, according to a news release.

“I was most excited for the first round because it’s my first time jumping on a team at the five-star level,” said Tony in the news release.

In addition to his growing equestrian success, Tony has demonstrated consistent academic excellence at Carmel Valley’s Cal Coast Academy, maintaining top marks since enrolling two years ago.

“I continually marvel at Tony’s tremendous ability to seamlessly balance the rigors of our challenging college preparatory curriculum with his passion for show jumping,” said Cal Coast Academy Founder and Principal Jan Dunning in the news release. “He embodies the dedication, discipline, and integrity we strive to instill in all of our students…His achievements remind our community that academic and athletic excellence truly go hand in hand.”
