County supervisors want to make homes even less affordable
Re “Another sales tax vote? Unions, nonprofits team up to get countywide half-cent hike on 2026 ballot” (Dec. 24): Not to be outdone by the city’s proposed tax of up to $5,000 per bedroom on short-term vacation rentals and second homes, now the county seeks to raise the tax on real estate sales by 5,455% (from $0.55 to $30.55 per $500 in value). So the property transfer tax on an average $1 million San Diego home would skyrocket from a reasonable $1,100 to a whopping $61,100. Unbelievable. How would this government-imposed home price increase help solve the affordable housing crisis?
