Drug haul
Coast Guard members unloaded bales of cocaine from the cutter Midgett at the Marine Terminal in Barrio Logan on Thursday. More than 21,100 pounds of cocaine – with an estimated street value of $156 million – were seized during four separate interdictions in international waters off Mexico, Central America and South America, the Coast Guard said.
The interdictions, by the Midgett crew in August and September, were part of Operation Pacific Viper, a multi-agency effort the Coast Guard leads to counter the flow of illegal drugs transported in the Eastern Pacific.
