Investigation continues in San Diego hit-and-run that killed 6-year-old

by Teri Figueroa

The investigation into a hit-and-run collision that killed a 6-year-old boy crossing University Avenue near City Heights in late October remains underway, San Diego police said.

The child has been identified as Lucas Chery Louis.

Lucas was crossing University mid-block just east of 54th Street around 6:50 p.m. Oct. 25 when he was struck, police said. The driver was heading west on University.

Lucas was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

The driver did not stop, and the vehicle was last seen heading north on 54th Street. Police have not released a description of the vehicle.

Police spokesperson Lt. Travis Easter said the investigation is continuing, “and investigators are following up on every lead they can get.”

CBS 8 reported that Lucas had been with an adult, walking home from a market across the street from his apartment. The station said the pair were in the median when a vehicle in the lane nearest to the median stopped to allow them to cross, but that after Lucas passed the stopped truck, he was struck by a vehicle in the next lane.
