La Jolla Shores Hotel closed for a week for termite extermination
The La Jolla Shores Hotel is tented and closed for about a week for termite extermination.
The tenting went up Jan. 5 and the hotel is expected to be reopened next week. Guests were sent to the nearby La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, which operates the La Jolla Shores Hotel.
“We tried to just tent the portion that needed it, but we had to do the whole thing,” said hotel President Bill Kellogg. “We had to shut the property down on short notice for a week, but it should be good to go once we’re done. This is a slow time at the hotel, so there were not that many reservations [to accommodate].”
He said termites were found in the wood during interior work that was already going on as part of a renovation of the balconies, flooring and support beams.
Termites “love the wood feast over there,” Kellogg said.
“We had shut down the northern half of the hotel for the renovations, and when [crews] got in there, they went into the walls and saw we had a problem to address,” Kellogg said. “It’s one of those unexpected things you find when you do work in La Jolla. The building is in very good shape, but we want it in perfect condition.”
He added that the hotel also had to be tented around 2012.
