Learn about Zone Zero landscaping rules on Jan. 17
A free presentation on new state landscaping guidelines that might impact insurance rates is planned in Rancho Bernardo.
Space is limited to the first 70 registrants for the 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 presentation in the Rancho Bernardo Library, 17110 Bernardo Center Drive. To register, visit tinyurl.com/ZoneZeroRB.
Bob Ilko from the Scripps Ranch Civic Association will share information on Zone Zero compliance.
Passed by the California Legislature in September 2020, Assembly Bill 3074 introduced the concept that requires removing combustible materials from within five feet of structures in high-risk wildfire areas. This includes removing mulch, plants and firewood to create a defensible space and lessen the chance of embers leading to a fire.
The California Board of Forestry is drafting the regulations. While they go immediately into effect for new construction, they will also impact existing residential and business structures and insurance rates.
Around 65% of Rancho Bernardo is in the Very High Fire Severity Zone.
The presentation is being hosted by the Rancho Bernardo Community Council and Scripps Ranch Civic Association. For questions, email insuranceissues@scrippsranch.org.
