More than 500 workers have begun installing the 1,500-foot-long track that will eventually be enclosed inside a 30,000-square foot building in the Fun Town area of the park.

The first-of-its-kind indoor coaster will be built by ridemaker ART Engineering of Germany, according to Screamscape.

The $90 million project installing twin coasters at Legoland California and Legoland Florida marks the largest Legoland investment in the history of parent company Merlin Entertainments.

Merlin Magic Making, the creative arm of the company, describes the new coasters as the “most technologically advanced” attractions at any Legoland park around the world.

The Carlsbad coaster takes over the former Legoland Driving School attraction, which was relocated to another part of the park formerly occupied by the retired Fun Town Police and Fire Academy.

The Florida coaster, set to open in early 2026, is being built on the former site of the 2004 Flight School coaster at the Winter Haven theme park.

The galactic themed indoor launched roller coasters will send riders on an exploratory mission into the uncharted Lego Galaxy in custom Lego spacecraft where they will pass through cosmic scenes and meet other intergalactic travelers, according to the backstory for the rides.

The Lego Galaxy themed land at Legoland California will be based on a popular Lego Space series of toys. Riders will “blast off” from Legoland Spaceport 885 — an homage to Lego Space Scooter building set 885.

Legoland California revealed plans last year in planning documents submitted to Carlsbad for a Lego Galaxy themed land featuring an indoor coaster, outdoor spinner ride, alien spaceship children’s play structure and toddler play area.

The family coaster — housed inside a 30-foot-tall “space port” — will include a Lego brick building attraction and a retail shop.

The Lego Galaxy themed land planned for Legoland California will also feature a 24-passenger spinner-type ride with three cantilevered arms.

The new space-themed land will also feature a Junior Astronaut Training Zone play area for younger kids and the Galactic Grub and Gear quick-service restaurant.

Galacticoaster will join three other coasters at Legoland California — Dragon (1999), Technic (2001) and Coastersaurus (2004).
