Man critically injured in shooting outside Chula Vista bar
A 31-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting outside a Chula Vista bar early Sunday, police said.
The victim was discovered in the middle of a parking lot of a strip mall on E Street near Woodlawn Avenue after someone called 911 around 1:40 a.m. to report a shooting, Chula Vista police Lt. Matt Smith said.
The man, a San Diego resident, suffered several gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital and reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators determined the man was outside a bar with a group of people when he was shot, Sgt. Anthony Molina said in a news release.
Smith said investigators did not know what led up to the shooting but said it was believed the man was targeted. “It does not appear a random act of violence,” Smith said.
Police have not released a description of the shooter and were trying to locate witnesses. They asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers online or by calling 888-580-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
