Man shot in Chula Vista bar parking lot dies at hospital

A 31-year-old man who was shot multiple times in the parking lot of Chula Vista bar last month died at a hospital on New Year’s Day, police reported Tuesday.

Pablo Hernandez was with a group of people in the middle of a parking lot when he was shot multiple times on E Street near Woodlawn Avenue around 1:40 a.m. on Dec. 28, Sgt. Anthony Molina said in a news release.

Officers arrived and performed life-saving measures until paramedics could take him to a hospital, where he died Thursday, Molina said.

Investigators said they do not know what led up to the shooting, but said it is believed Hernandez was targeted.

“It does not appear to be a random act of violence,” police Lt. Matt Smith previously said.
