Meg McLaughlin’s sports photos hailed for their artistry
On three occasions recently, I have marveled at the artistry of Sports section photographs, capturing iconic moments.
The first captured Padres player Ramón Laureano climbing the left field wall with the home run ball nowhere in sight — but you know from the photo exactly where the ball is, with every single fan and Laureano looking at it.
The second captured Padres player Fernando Tatis Jr. leaping for an iconic, home run-stealing backhand catch over the right field wall.
The third was the “Cutting It Back” surfing competition photo of Avery McDonald hanging stretched out midair at a critical moment on the wave.
All three captured by the U-T’s Meg McLaughlin. Well done.
