Miracle League field to be renovated and renamed Padres Park
The Miracle League baseball field at San Dieguito County Park will be getting an upgrade, along with a new name: Padres Park.
On Oct. 22, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution changing Miracle Field to Padres Park for a period of 15 years as part of a naming rights agreement. The San Diego Padres logo will also be a new feature on the field, specifically built for people with disabilities.
“Baseball belongs to everyone,” said Terra Lawson-Remer, chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in a news release. “Padres Park will be a field where every child and adult — no matter their ability — can feel the joy of the game, the pride of their team, and the support of their community. This partnership with the Miracle League and the Padres embodies what makes San Diego special: when we work together, we make inclusion real.”

The field’s rubber surfacing, which accommodates wheelchairs and mobility aids, was aging and in need of replacement. County parks and recreation worked with the Miracle League to raise the $850,000 necessary to complete the repairs. The funding includes $250,000 from the parks and recreation budget, $310,000 in donations, $40,000 from Lawson-Remer’s office’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Program, and $250,000 through a sponsorship with the San Diego Padres Foundation.
“The Padres Foundation is proud to add to a long-term partnership with the Miracle League of San Diego with this needed field renovation,” said Tom Seidler, president of the Padres Foundation in the news release. “We believe every San Diegan should have the chance to experience the joy of baseball, and Padres Park will continue the 20-year legacy of the Miracle League for generations to come.”

Miracle League of San Diego has been giving players of all abilities a place to play, shine and feel seen for the last 20 years, according to founder Dan Engel. Teams named for Padres players like Gwynn, Peavy and Cronenworth play games at both San Dieguito and at Bell Middle School. The fall season stretches through Nov. 15 and construction on the field will begin in December, aiming for a January 2026 completion.
“Thanks to this extension of an incredible partnership with the Padres and the County that began in 2005, our athletes will have a new field worthy of their incredible spirit,” Engel said. “Padres Park will be more than a ballfield — it will be a home for our community for another 20 years.”
