Navy base intruder should pay for full cost of his actions

Re “SD Pilot admits to landing on Navy island” (Sept. 16): What is wrong with this picture?

An individual landed his small airplane on government-restricted land, not once but twice.

The landing was not an emergency; the individual was warned that he could face federal charges after his first landing.

The overall cost of the two unauthorized “visits” was about $500,000. As a part of his plea deal, he has to give up his pilot’s license and pay $8,077 in restitution for a gate he broke after stealing a truck belonging to the naval base. So what if he is an intelligent young man? If he is so intelligent, he should have known that his actions would result in consequences along with federal charges. He should be held accountable and required to pay for the full costs of his actions: $500,000.
