Pacific Beach students earn honors while learning life lessons
Students at various campuses in Pacific Beach have started to earn recognitions and learn life lessons.
For example, Pacific Beach Elementary held its first Student Recognition Awards Ceremony of the year on Oct. 3. The awards are based on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Dr. Stephen Covey, a program chosen to help students build confidence, responsibility and a sense of purpose in and out of the classroom, according to Principal Karon Schnitzer. The first habit focused on was “be proactive.”

Oct. 3 was also “Future Buc Day” at Pacific Beach Elementary. It included Mission Bay High School cheerleaders and football players visiting the campus to talk about “Buc pride” with the younger students.
That evening the high school hosted its annual “Future Buc Night” for students in feeder schools to Mission Bay High.
“It is important to have ‘Future Buc Night’ so that younger kids can look forward to becoming a Mission Bay Buccaneer and build school spirit along with community,” said senior Jevyn Higman, a member of the football team.
Halftime events during the game included the Future Buccaneers going on the field to participate in tackling drills, throwing and catching a touchdown, and kicking field goals.

Over at Sessions Elementary School, students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade are earning International Baccalaureate Learner Profile awards.
All IB schools teach to and support a set of 10 key Learner Profiles, attributes developed and revisited every year. They include learning to become an open minded, principled, knowledgeable and caring student.
