Padres re-sign pitcher Kyle Hart to 1-year deal with club option
The Padres retained some depth on their pitching staff Monday, signing left-hander Kyle Hart to a one-year contract with a team option for 2027.
Hart, who will turn 33 on Sunday, pitched in 20 games for the Padres last season, making six starts.
Hart is guaranteed $1.2 million in the deal. He will make $1 million in 2026, and the $2.5 million option for 2027 includes a $200,000 buyout.
After spending the previous season pitching in Korea, Hart signed a one-year deal with the Padres in February that paid him $1 million in 2025 and had a $5 million option for this season, which the Padres declined.
Hart began the season in the rotation but was optioned in late April after posting a 6.00 ERA over 21 innings in his five starts. He was recalled and allowed five runs in 4⅔ innings in a May 28 start and was returned to Triple-A. He held the Rockies to one hit in six scoreless innings in his third start but allowed five runs three times in his other five starts, often being plagued by big innings.
Hart was recalled and worked 3⅔ scoreless innings in a relief appearance July 6 against the Rangers and finished with a 4.67 ERA in 14 relief appearances (17⅓ innings).
Given the Padres’ dearth of starting pitchers, Hart will likely get a chance to start in spring training.
Joe Musgrove, Nick Pivetta, JP Sears and Randy Vásquez are the only established starting pitchers on the roster.
