Pedestrian hit and killed in San Marcos over weekend identified

by City News Service

Authorities identified a man who died over the weekend in a late-night San Marcos traffic crash involving a suspected drunken driver.

Benjamin Lo Cicero, 34, was struck by a Ford F-150 while walking on West San Marcos Boulevard near Via Vera Cruz shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies provided emergency care to Lo Cicero prior to the arrival of paramedics, who took over the lifesaving attempts before pronouncing him dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, a 54-year-old man, allegedly was “under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI,” sheriff’s Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.

“However, the DUI arrest is not related to the cause of the collision,” the sergeant added. “The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.”
