A 55-year-old man died after he was struck by an SUV while crossing state Route 94 in Jamul early Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just after 4:15 a.m. near Hillside Drive, CHP Officer Jasmine Lopez said in a news release.
Lopez said a 48-year-old National City man was driving a Hyundai Tucson eastbound on SR-94 when a pedestrian crossed into the path of the SUV outside of a crosswalk.
The pedestrian, an El Cajon resident, was struck, she said. He died at the scene. His name was not released.
The Hyundai driver was not injured.
Neither drugs nor alcohol is considered a factor in the collision, Lopez said.
