Preview: UCSD men’s basketball to visit Loyola Marymount

Records: UCSD is 9-1, Loyola Marymount is 7-3

Last time out: Leo Beath went 5 for 8 from 3-point range and scored 21 points while Emanuel Prospere II took advantage of mismatches down low to score 20 points as UCSD routed Tulane in Henderson, Nev., which was the site of the Big West Tournament won by the Tritons last March. UCSD had a 50-34 edge in rebounds and shot 46.7% while turning the ball over only 12 times.

Series history: UCSD won only previous meeting 87-82 in 1983.

Tritons update: This is the Tritons fifth straight game away from home. Beath leads UCSD in scoring (19.1 points per game) and rebounding (5.5 rpg) and is shooting 51% (23-for-45) from 3-point range. Tom Beattie is second in both categories at 12.3 and 5.4. guard Aidan Burke is averaging 11.2 ppg and Prospere’s effort against Tulane boosted his marks to 9.4 ppg and 5.1 ppg. Led by Beath (55.8 percent), five UCSD regulars are shooting better than 50% from the floor.

Lions update: Six-foot-8 Jael Martin (Carlsbad High School) is a redshirt freshman on the Loyola Marymount roster. Jan Vide, a 6-foot-6 junior guard from Slovenia, leads the Lions in scoring (15.2 ppg) and assists (6.0) but has missed the past five games. Senior 6-2 guard MJ Amey Jr. is averaging 14.9 ppg and junior 6-6 guard Rodney Brown is averaging 13.3 ppg.
