Shakeup at Estates HOA board sees president, general manager resign
San Diego Country Estates Home Owner’s Association general manager Carl Weise and board president Jeff Wells have resigned.
The action came during a closed session at the HOA’s Nov. 18 board meeting.
An announcement of the changes in leadership came in a letter to Estates homeowners that was published in the SDCE Valley News on Nov. 28. Jodie Taylor, interim president, said the letter was written “to be transparent and get a statement to the homeowners,” as well as answer some discussions that arose on social media sites.
In part, the letter stated “…we can confirm that under mutual agreement that the Association’s General Manager has stepped down from his position. Additionally, the Association Board’s President has resigned his position on the Board.”
The board expressed their best wishes to Weise in his future endeavors, and acknowledged the hard work of Wells during his time on the board and as president.
The letter was signed by Taylor, then vice president; Vanessa Jerrell, secretary; John Massery, treasurer, and Roger Rajcic, director.
Wells’ role as president was announced in April. Taylor confirmed that Wells gave no reason for his resignation at the November meeting, and that Weise was not fired, but stepped down by mutual agreement.
She declined to provide further information detailing the events of the meeting, stating it was a “personnel matter.”
Wells’ replacement is expected to be announced at the board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16, she said.
Taylor said the board appointed Pete Smith as interim general manager. Weise had held the position since Feb. 2025.
Smith is a longtime Estates resident, and was the general manager of the Rancho Santa Fe Homeowners Association for 18 years. He is a board member of the Ramona Cemetery District.
Taylor said a timeline to hire a new general manager was not available.
