Why must so much focus be put on partisan affliation of officials?

Re “Money, clout pour into North County race” (Oct. 20): It is always so disheartening to see the emphasis on party affiliation in local races and governance.

As a resident in an unincorporated part of the county, and having many business and family interests in other unincorporated parts of the county, in addition to cities within the county, I am very aware of the importance of the Board of Supervisors.

Your story on the upcoming race to fill the District 5 supervisor seat in 2026 repeats the drama of which side has a majority on the board. Who cares? Why should very local and important issues have anything to do with party politics? Let’s take party politics out of local leadership, races, etc.
