Jenny McCarthy Is Living in a Tent and Considering a Move to Las Vegas After ‘Serious’ Mold Problem

by Hannah Chambers

Jenny McCarthy is opening up about her unusual living situation as she’s moved into a tent in her yard while she deals with the effects of a “mold and mycotoxin poisoning” diagnosis.

During the Oct. 28 episode of “The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show,” the actress explained the health-related challenges she’s faced over the last two years, which have included multiple surgeries and rounds of antibiotics.

Eventually, medical professionals tested “The Masked Singer” judge for mold, and she was diagnosed with mycotoxin poisoning.

McCarthy, 54, believes she was initially exposed to mold at her “very, very old” dressing room that “had a dampness to it,” as the makeup artist who exclusively works with her “in that dressing room also wound up getting mold poisoning.”

After the diagnosis, McCarthy embarked on a “mold protocol” in January 2025, following a routine of taking vitamins and undergoing treatments. She also took on the costly experience of remediating her home—which she said can cost anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars to “a hundred grand.”

“Remediation costs are so high because it takes a specialist to be able to move the mold without ruining your entire house,” she said, noting that the process was not covered by her insurance.

After remediation, McCarthy explained she had to hire contractors to “come in and rebuild” the home.

“You have to get rid of all your furniture. You have to get rid of all your clothes. I’m like, ‘Oh my god, that’s crazy!’” she said of the advice she received. “So, we remediated and because I am paranoid now about basically sleeping anywhere, I live in a tent. And I’m not even joking.”

McCarthy shared a look at the tent she’s been living out of, noting that it has a rain-proof cover for safety.

“I don’t have to worry about rain in California, but I do worry about chemtrails. And sprinklers,” she said.

She also added that she “won’t even go into an RV” because she is concerned about “chemicals.”

The podcast host went on to explain that she feels “a little bit crazy sometimes,” noting a “paranoid” state of mind, “like the walls are caving in.” She called the situation “really, really hard,” and confirmed that her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, 57, is not living in the tent with her.

“Donnie is working in Canada, and he is safe inside of a building,” McCarthy said. “Does he think I’m crazy? Yes. But he completely understands it.”

McCarthy also said that in the wake of the ordeal, she’s considering a relocation.

“I am so paranoid that I’ve even talked to Donny about moving out of the Midwest, where it’s humid, and going to a dry location like Vegas or Arizona or something, because my body just can’t detox mold very well,” she said.

While it appears that the tent McCarthy is residing in is located in California, it’s unclear whether the home she had remediated is the St. Charles, IL, residence she and Wahlberg listed for $2.799 million in September of this year.

In a recent Instagram comment, McCarthy indicated that the couple was “Going to Vegas. Not Cali.” following the listing of their longtime home.

The couple have owned the property for over a decade, and purchased it for $1.1 million in 2015.

“This isn’t an extravagant home, but there’s no greater symbol of our love for each other than this house and how much love has gone into it,” Wahlberg told People magazine of the dwelling in 2019.

The four-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom home was built in 1996. Spanning 7,236 square feet, the abode sits on 1.26 acres. Based on the contingent status on the property’s listing, it appears the couple has found a buyer.
