Atomic Groove Band helps support The Red Nose Run at the Belly Up

by News Release

Atomic Groove kicked off the Christmas season on Nov. 21 at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach with a fundraiser for The Red Nose Run/Walk (TRNR) presented by Del Mar Foundation. The local band is headed by Carrie Weiland, the lead vocalist and known as “Atomic Girl”. Their “Good Vibez” party music begins a holiday season event to kick off the spirit of giving, according to a news release.

Monica Valentino, TRNR board member, said in the news release, “This was a magical night, with many of our volunteers and sponsors attending and in holiday attire. Atomic Groove had the Friday night Belly Up audience dancing and singing on their feet. We are delighted when the community gets together for fun and a good cause at the annual Belly Up event. They support the community in so many ways.”

The Red Nose Run will hit the beach in Del Mar on Saturday, Dec. 13 at noon, presented by the Del Mar Foundation. Course distances are 3K and 5K.

The Red Nose Run nonprofit organizations who benefit are Semper Fi & America’s Fund (thefund.org) and the San Dieguito River Park (sdrp.org). It’s the only sanctioned holiday run on the beach, and currently open for registrations. Sign up using the website: www.therednoserun.com

At this year’s Red Nose Run awards will be given to the fastest runners, best individual and group costumes, best pet costume, and others. All adults receive a participant’s gift of an insulated tumbler and a TRNR-branded holiday beanie. The finish line celebration is considered one of the best in the U.S. and includes live music, food, specialty ice cream, and craft beer (21 years of age and older), all included with event registration, the news release stated. Other local vendors will participate in the event expo at the Del Mar Powerhouse Community Center.

Last year, the run had its highest level of registrants. Race Director Anthony Valentino said in the news release, “This year, rain or shine, our event will happen. We expect to sell out and have raised awareness of good in the community. If you want to be part of this year’s iconic TRNR, register now while we still have availability!”

With more funding, Semper Fi & America’s Fund and San Dieguito River Park have more ways to serve the local veterans and outdoors communities. The Red Nose Run holiday tradition is an annual celebration that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since it began as a club run by the Low and Slow Runners group back in the 1990s. Every year, the Poseidon Restaurant serves a heavy buffet to the participants. This year, the end of race entertainment is provided by Dos Echoes, the beer garden is sponsored by Viewpoint Brewing, and the ice cream will be from Saffron & Rose.

About the nonprofit beneficiaries of the event:

Semper Fi & America’s Fund: Donations fund cares for this nation’s wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families.

San Dieguito River Park: When completed, the coast-to-crest trail will be 70 miles long. Funds raised go directly to help build this trail from Del Mar to Volcan Mountain with equipment, tools, and signage.
