Brush fire scorches 20 acres near Campo

by Caleb Lunetta

A brush fire burned 20 acres north of Campo Thursday before firefighters were able to stop its forward progress, officials said.

The blaze broke out near La Posta Truck Trail and La Posta Road around noon, and its rapid spread quickly threatened structures in the area, Cal Fire officials said in a statement posted to X.

An evacuation warning was put in place for the nearby area.

However, a little over an hour later, Cal Fire officials reported that the speed of the blaze’s spread had slowed and structures in the area were no longer threatened.

By 1:50 p.m., firefighters announced forward progress had been stopped.

The evacuation warnings were lifted by 2:50 p.m.

The blaze was 20% contained by 6 p.m., Cal Fire officials said.
