City’s beach parking plan criticized over cost, specifics
Re “S.D. leaders split on paid beach, bay parking” (Nov. 6): The city should look elsewhere for revenue and make hard choices about cuts. Paid beach parking is insane — almost as nutty as Balboa Park paid parking and a huge increase in utility rates. These proposed increases slam working local families hard. Stop it. Waterfront properties throughout San Diego owned by nonresidents as second or third homes and rarely occupied are where to look for revenue.

Stop making this issue more difficult — resident or tourist, everyone should pay the same fee to park. There are functioning “tried + true” parking fee collection methods already being used throughout California. Our city should copy the pay parking system used in Santa Barbara, which even has a phone app that enables you to conveniently add time remotely to your car’s parking meter instead of having to trudge back to your car. Folks, it’s not that hard!
