Community rallies for Ramona 10-year-old at golf tournament fundraiser

The community came together at the inaugural Teeing Off Fore Grant charity golf tournament to support 10-year-old Grant Carlson of Ramona in his battle against leukemia.

The Nov. 14 event at the San Vicente Golf Course was attended by local golfers, businesses and families all contributing to raise funds to help Grant and his family. The tournament drew 144 golfers – 36 teams, which double stacked the 18 holes at San Vicente.

Title sponsors of Teeing Off Fore Grant were Mountain Valley Ranch and CO’s Traffic Control, Inc.

Hole sponsors added a creative flair across the course, including an especially memorable challenge at Hole 1. Sponsored by Mountain Valley Ranch, the opening tee required golfers to roll a dice to determine which unusual club they would use for their first shot.

Players and spectators browsed through 25 raffle baskets donated by local businesses, and had 15 silent auction items to bid on. Players had lunch on the course and the event ended with a buffet dinner where contest winners were announced.

“We have such a deep appreciation for every golfer, sponsor, volunteer, and friends who came together to make this tournament possible,” Jessica Carlson, Grant’s mother, said about the event. “What happened here wasn’t just a day on the course — it was a true reflection of what community looks like when people show up for one another.

“Seeing familiar faces, new supporters, local businesses and entire groups rally behind Grant reminded us that we are surrounded by compassion far greater than we ever imagined.”

Funds raised through Teeing Off Fore Grant will support adaptive resources, treatment and ongoing care, Carlson said.

“This tournament wasn’t just an event; it was a reminder that when a child and a family are facing something hard, community becomes a source of strength,” she said. “We are incredibly grateful for the love, generosity and unity that everyone brought to this day and continues to bring to our family during this battle.”
