Del Mar reappoints Measure Q committee member

by Luke Harold

The Del Mar City Council reappointed Tom McGreal to the Measure Q Citizen Oversight Committee for a three-year term that runs through Nov. 30, 2028.

McGreal, a Del Mar resident since 1998 who also serves on the Undergrounding Program Advisory Committee, has already served two terms on the Measure Q committee. He was also a three-term member of the Finance Committee until 2021.

“The term limit for advisory committee members is typically two,” according to a council agenda report, “however, City Council has the flexibility to make an exception if they feel it is to the benefit of the committee to re-appoint an individual for a third term.”

The committee meets at least biannually to monitor revenues and expenditures from the city’s Measure Q fund, which comes from a one-cent sales tax to support the citywide utility undergrounding project and other infrastructure.

According to a council agenda report, the city advertised for two vacancies, including McGreal’s current term that expires this month, on the Measure Q Citizen Oversight Committee. The other was a historic Del Mar business community vacancy. McGreal’s was the only application that the city received for either vacancy.

The other vacancy “has historically remained vacant due to a lack of interested applicants,” according to the city.
