Farmers Insurance Open welcomes hometown favorite Xander Schauffele
A familiar face is returning to the Farmers Insurance Open after a one-year absence.
Xander Schauffele, the Scripps Ranch High School and San Diego State graduate, will be making his 10th appearance in the Farmers, which is Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 at Torrey Pines.
Schauffele, ranked No. 4 in the world, was among the latest batch of early commitments for the Farmers along with No. 18 Ludvig Aberg, who won last year’s Genesis Invitational played at Torrey Pines, and No. 25 Patrick Cantlay.
Schauffele missed the Farmers last year while recovering from a rib injury that sidelined him for two months. The injury had nagged him since late in the 2024 season, but Schauffele finally took a break early last year so he could heal.
That was disappointing for local fans eager to see the native son who had a breakout year in 2024, with major victories in the PGA Championship and the British Open.
Schauffele made the cut in all 16 events he entered when he returned last year, though he had only three top-10 finishes before concluding the season with a victory in the Baycurrent Classic in Japan for his 10th tour win.
The field for the Farmers has been taking shape the past two weeks, with several major winners and former champions making early commitments.
On Monday, five-time major winner Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour was announced, and his first event will be the Farmers. It will be his first appearance here since the 2022 Farmers. Other major winners committed include Hideki Matsuyama (2021 Masters), Justin Rose (2013 U.S. Open), Adam Scott (2013 Masters) and Gary Woodland (2019 U.S. Open).
Farmers defending champion Harris English, ranked No. 11 in the world, also is in the field, along with former Farmers winners Matthieu Pavon (2024), Max Homa (2023), Luke List (2022) and Brandt Snedeker (2012, 2016).
