High School Football Roundup: Bishop’s improves to 6-1; La Jolla no match for Lincoln

by La Jolla Light

High school football in La Jolla this week was a tale of two routs — one on the positive side and the other not so much. Here’s a recap.

Bishop’s 53, Don Lugo 0

The Knights followed up their 49-0 thrashing of Classical Academy by doing the same to Don Lugo of Chino on the road Oct. 9.

Bishop’s senior quarterback Cash Herrera threw three touchdown passes and sophomore backup Jackson Binn threw another in dropping the Conquistadores to 1-6. The Knights averaged 9.6 yards per rush in totaling 163 yards on the ground.

Bishop’s (6-1) next has a home game vs. Escondido Charter at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, on the La Jolla High School field.

Lincoln 54, La Jolla High 3

The Vikings went into their home contest Oct. 10 against Lincoln of San Diego with a 3-0 record on home turf, scoring an average of 44 points per game.

But the Hornets — ranked No. 1 in the CIF San Diego Section and eighth in the state by MaxPreps — came in 5-1 overall and averaging nearly 40 points per game. So something had to give, and unfortunately for the Vikings, it wasn’t Lincoln.

The Hornets led 24-3 at halftime, and it only got worse from there for La Jolla as Lincoln cruised to a lopsided victory.

The Vikings (4-3) will try to bounce back when they host Eastern League rival San Diego High (5-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

La Jolla Country Day

The Torreys (3-4) had a bye before they try to extend their two-game winning streak in their next game, a tough matchup at home vs. unbeaten Coastal League opponent Santa Fe Christian of Solana Beach (8-0) at 7 p.m. Oct. 17. ♦
