New Gallery Sessions concert series designed for people who love music

The Art Center of Ramona is home to a new Gallery Sessions concert series designed for “folks who love to listen to music.”

The quarterly event, to be hosted by musician Cathryn Beeks, will feature mostly out-of-town and traveling musicians at the center’s gallery.

Two husband and wife duos, Virginia James and Bug Guts, will perform at the inaugural event on Sunday, Jan. 25.

Virginia James features Alicia Farias on violin and Chris Farias on guitar. Both are classically trained musicians and sing, and will be playing a lot of their original songs, Beeks said.

“Their own love story is also part of their music,” she said.

The two had been living in Boston, but moved to San Marcos near the end of last year. 

Bug Guts features Rosebud and Scott Ireland. Originally from San Diego, the couple now lives in Northern California.

“There is nothing like them; they both sing and play, their music is vocally driven, it’s poignant, and they have with smart, witty lyrics,” Beeks said.

The seated venue is limited to 30 guests. 

“The session begins with a reception from 5 to 6 p.m., allowing time for guests to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a glass of Mermaid Valley wine and the art in the gallery before the performances,” Beeks said.

Virginia James takes the stage at 6 p.m., and Bug Guts follows at 7 p.m. There is a 15-minute break between performances.
