Pacific Beach second grader sinks a hole-in-one

A Pacific Beach 7-year-old had a memorable golf outing when he hit a hole-in-one at the Mission Bay Golf Course.

“It was fun,” said Nigel Garmestani about his accomplishment. “I was kinda surprised.”

The feat was accomplished on July 26 on hole 14. Nigel hit the ball that traveled 102 yards with a hybrid club.

Nigel, the son of Crown Point residents Aric and Ramsay Garmestani, has been spending a lot of time on the golf course lately as his maternal grandmother, Betty Cook, and her partner, Charlie Stone, have been teaching him the sport while visiting from Florida for the past month.

“He was playing very well and is enthusiastic about golf,” Cook said of her grandson. “He has learned a whole lot and he can hit the ball well.”

She said Nigel is doing “super” and “amazing” on the greens considering his age and inexperience.

According to Aric Garmestani, his son has played golf “very infrequently” over the past two years until this summer.

“This was out of the blue. He was pretty excited,” Garmestani said of his son’s reaction to sinking a hole-in-one.

“We were flabbergasted,” Cook said.

Nigel is entering second grade at Crown Point Elementary School and said he plans to continue golfing because “I like to go to the range and love hitting balls when I practice in our front yard.”
