Pedestrian struck by SUV, killed in Oceanside
A pedestrian died after he was struck by an SUV on an Oceanside street Monday evening, police said.
The collision happened about 6:45 p.m. on Mission Avenue near Francesca Drive, roughly a quarter-mile east of Old Grove Road, Oceanside police said in a news release.
Police said the man was struck by a black Chevrolet Tahoe that had been headed east on Mission. Despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene. Police said the man was an Oceanside resident, but did not release his name, citing the need to notify his family of his death.
The SUV driver remained at the site and cooperated with investigators, police said. Neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision, they said.
