Recent Torrey Pines graduate receives North Coast Optimist Club sponsored scholarship award

by News Release

The Torrey Pines High School Scholarship Fund recently announced that the recipient of the North Coast Optimist Club sponsored scholarship award is Edwin Espana-Suarez, a graduating senior planning on attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo majoring in business administration with computer science as his projected minor, according to a news release.

Edwin is the most recent recipient of the Optimist Club sponsored scholarship that has been offered annually to an eligible Torrey Pines High School graduating senior for a number of decades. The North Coast Optimist Club sponsored scholarship is one of the most coveted scholarships awarded by the Torrey Pines High School Scholarship Fund each year, the news release stated.

In Edwin’s letter of thanks to the club he expressed his appreciation for the award and how he intends to use the award funds to offset some of the expected college expenses.

The North Coast Optimist Club has served the youth of northern San Diego County communities for a number of decades. As a volunteer organization focused on bringing out the best in youth, the Optimist Club encourages young people to be all they can be through support programs including Scouting, Junior Optimist Clubs, youth sports activities such as the Miracle League of San Diego, and with Oratorical and Essay Scholarship contests.
