Selfish Fair expands with new vendors on Aug. 24 in Pacific Beach

Locals can learn more about the importance of self-care, self-esteem and self-love when the free Selfish Fair returns for a second time this summer to Pacific Beach.

It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at Tap Fever Studios, 2146 Garnet Ave. Admission and parking are free.

The fair is a concept created by Larisa Hall, owner of Tap Fever Studios.

“Wellness fairs have started becoming more popular,” Hall said. “We’ve been talking about this concept for awhile. We wanted to do something a little different to make it fun and exciting for everyone. We decided to make it hyper-focused on just local businesses in PB.”

Her concept was launched with a small fair held at her dance studio in June. She said it fits in with some of the community trends in Pacific Beach right now. With a focus on adding more arts, community events and places for people to gather, a wellness fair seemed like a natural addition.

Hall said her first fair on June 14 was small, but a success, she learned a lot and connected with a lot of local vendors.

“It doubles as a networking event for local businesses and as a fun community event where people can come and take care of themselves,” Hall said.

Ning Khaiaphone, manager of Pacific Beach NewLife Weight Loss & Wellness Clinic, was a vendor in June and will be returning to this month’s fair.

“We are coming back. It was a fun event because it was something different,” Khaiaphone said. “We were showcasing our services and also got to meet a lot of other vendors.”

Hall said she and her team are ready to launch an even bigger event this second time with more vendors. They are trying to get the word out to the community so people can come and try free samples, demonstrations and learn about different ways to take care of themselves without any strings attached.

“I learned so much at the last fair,” Hall said. “It gives you so many ways to learn about how to take care of yourself and find things that you probably didn’t even know were in your own backyard right here in PB.”

Participants can look forward to not only wellness booths but also live demonstrations, interactive workshops and opportunities to speak directly with experts in fitness, nutrition and mental health. The first 20 attendees will also get a free gift bag.

Hall said she hopes attendees will be able to take away an appreciation for self-care after attending.

“It really makes you better able to be better for everybody else when you take care of yourself,” she said.

Khaiaphone shared a similar sentiment when she talked about her work at New Life and what she hopes people can get out of her booth at the upcoming fair.

“It’s about health. I’m always thankful that clients come to us because you gain so much more confidence in life when you feel good about yourself,” Khaiaphone said.

As the Selfish Fair continues to grow, it is bringing together vendors and community members from all different industries. Yet they all touch self-care in one way or another. The vendors in June ranged from chiropractic offices and spas to sound recording studios and Rolfing services. Rolfing is when the body’s fascia — the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs – is manipulated.

Some of those who have signed up include Abloom Rituals, Bodywork by Danielle, Elicia Marie Beauty, The Hologram Place, Indigo Fox Healing, NewLife Weight Loss & Wellness, Perfect Balance Acupuncture and The Music Company.

Hall said the upcoming fair promises not only expanded offerings, but also a renewed reminder that when individuals invest in their own well-being, the entire community flourishes.
